Mike is King!
Seymour, WI - Mike Mullen scored his third WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour victory in the Mid-Summer Showdown at Outgamie Speedway and was crowned King in BMRE Electrick Carts Victory Lane. Bill Edler and Terry Casey led the field to the green flag, with Edler taking the lead. Casey took the lead as he raced to the outside of Edler and then caution slowed the field. On the restart, Casey led the way with Edler, Joel Bennett, Mike Mullen and Lukas Postl in pursuit. Casey continued to lead as Mullen passed Edler for second and began to set his sights on Casey. On lap six, Casey restarted in the lead, while Edler and Mullen battled for the second spot and Justin Ritchie and Postl rounded out the top five. Casey and Edler pulled away as Ritchie worked to the inside of Mullen and Mullen ascended to second again. Two laps later, Mullen raced to the inside of Casey to take the lead on lap nine and the two raced side by side until just before halfway. As Casey and Mullen raced for the lead, they approached the tail end of the field and they split Tom Naeyaert, with Mullen re-taking the lead as they raced through turns three and four.
Caution slowed the field one more time with just ten laps to go, allowing Nick Anvelink to close the gap as he had raced to fourth position after starting 15th. On the restart, Mullen pulled away to a 1.314 second lead as Casey restarted on the top side of the track with Ritchie in third. As Mullen started to pull away, Ritchie passed Casey for second and tried to hunt down Mullen for the lead. Mullen pulled out to a 2.457 second advantage over Ritchie who was feeling the pressure from Anvelink with just two laps to go. Mullen finished 1.997 seconds ahead of Ritchie followed by Anvelink, Justin Schmidt and Bennett.
