Mike is King!
Seymour, WI - Mike Mullen was crowned King of the WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour Fall Brawl at Outagamie Speedway in BMRE Electrick Carts Victory Lane. Mullen was the Champ Pans Fast Qualifier with a 00:14.768 second lap in qualifying and was also the Ken's Sports Inc Pole Sitter, after re-drawing the pole position for the 30-lap Fall Brawl. Mullen and Kurt Moeller led the field to the green flag, with Mullen taking the lead. Mitch McGrath, who started eighth worked around the top side of the track, thrilling the crowd as the field raced into turn one and two, going three wide down the backstretch for third place. McGrath completed lap one in second spot, setting his sights on Mullen. McGrath raced to the outside of Mullen on the backstretch, advancing to the lead on lap two.
McGrath continued to lead the field with Mullen, Brett Swedberg, and Taylor Scheffler following him on the top side of the track. Just before the caution came out on lap nine, Mullen had closed the gap to McGrath and made a pass for the lead going down the backstretch. On the restart, Mullen took the high line, hoping to make another run at McGrath, but instead had to hold off a challenge for second from Scheffler. Caution slowed the field one lap later for a second time, allowing Mullen another shot at McGrath on the restart. McGrath was able to maintain his lead over Mullen, with Scheffler, Justin Ritchie and Troy Springborn rounding out the top five at the halfway point.
McGrath held a .643 second advantage over Mullen as they began to approach the tail end of the field. Mullen attempted to make a move to the inside of McGrath, but wasn't able to make it stick. Mullen continued to close the gap to McGrath, taking another shot on the inside lane, but again McGrath had the advantage with just eight laps to go.
With five laps to go, McGrath went to the inside and Mullen chose to go high, as they raced through traffic going into turn one. Mullen raced through turns one and two, taking the lead and pulling away from McGrath, who was now .778 seconds behind. With a clean track ahead of him, Mullen stretched his lead to 1.513 seconds, winning his third WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour race of the 2024 season. McGrath settled for second, followed by Scheffler, Ritchie and Nick Anvelink.
