Double Header Weekend with The Diamond 48 and King of the Park

The Diamond 48 and King of the Park Highlight Huge Weekend for the WABAM Dirt Kings Tour

As temperatures rise heading into summer, anticipation is building for one of the biggest weekends of the season for the WABAM Dirt Kings Tour. The tour’s “Royal Doubleheader” features two marquee events with The Diamond 48 on Saturday night at 141 Speedway followed by the King of the Park on Sunday at Angell Park Speedway.

Saturday’s The Diamond 48 honors the life and legacy of Diamond Jim Letizia and has quickly become one of the premier events on the Dirt Kings Tour schedule. Since its debut in 2018, The Diamond has been contested at three different Wisconsin dirt tracks. The event began at 141 Speedway in 2018 and 2019 before moving to Plymouth Dirt Track in 2020. Wilmot Raceway hosted the event in both 2021 and 2022 before the Diamond returned to 141 Speedway in 2023, where it has remained since.

One of the most unique storylines surrounding The Diamond is the fact that the event has never produced a repeat winner. Jared Siefert won the inaugural Diamond 40 in 2018 before Justin Ritchie, Jesse Glenz, Taylor Scheffler, Nick Anvelink, Jayden Schmidt, and Brett Swedberg each added their names to the winners list in subsequent years. The Diamond 44 in 2022 was rained out.

Saturday’s event will mark the 11th Dirt Kings Tour appearance at the challenging quarter-mile bullring of 141 Speedway. Nick Anvelink leads all active drivers with four series victories at the track, while Jared Siefert, Mitch McGrath, Justin Ritchie, Taylor Scheffler, Jayden Schmidt, and Brett Swedberg have all earned one Dirt Kings Tour victory there.

Following Saturday night’s action, teams will make the trip south to Angell Park Speedway for Sunday’s King of the Park. Like The Diamond, the King of the Park has yet to see a repeat winner since the event began in 2021. Brad “JJ” Mueller captured the inaugural event before Nick Anvelink scored the win in 2022. The 2023 edition was rained out, while former series champion Mike Mullen won the most recent King of the Park in 2024. Last season’s event was also lost to weather.

Although not technically part of the King of the Park, the Dirt Kings Tour has competed once previously at Angell Park Speedway outside of the event. In 2017, Cole Spacek picked up his lone career Dirt Kings Tour victory at the historic clay oval.
