Dustin is King!

Decorah, IA - Dustin Sorensen returned to WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour BMRE Electrick Carts Victory Lane at Winneshiek Raceway, claiming a $5000 victory in the King of the Bullring 40 presented by Heathside Fireplaces & More, after claiming the win at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in the Stars & Stripes 40 on Friday night.

Tyler Bruening and Jake Timm led the field to the green flag, in front a huge crowd of fans as late models returned to Winneshiek Raceway for the first time in more than fifteen years. Bruening took the lead as they raced into turn one. Sorensen was close behind, followed by Jesse Glenz. Bruening approached the tail end of the on lap six, with Sorensen following in second. Bruening continued to work through traffic, pulling away from Sorensen and then Sorensen would close the gap.

Just before the halfway point, Sorensen took a look inside, but Bruening was able to maintain his position. Bruening raced through traffic going three-wide twice in the same lap, leaving Sorensen 1.282 seconds behind. With open track in front of Bruening, he was able to increase his lead to 3.036 seconds over Sorensen.

Drivers were racing for position all around the track, allowing Sorensen to close the gap to 1.003 behind Bruening with just ten laps to go. Sorensen continued to follow Bruening, just hoping for an opportunity to challenge for the lead. With five laps to go, Sorensen raced to the outside of Bruening in turn two, and Sorensen took the lead. At the line, Sorensen had a .401 second advantage over Bruening.

With three laps to go, Bruening looked to the inside of Sorensen, but Sorensen was able to hold off the challenge for the lead. With two laps to go, Sorensen worked past the seventh place car of Brett Swedberg and was 1.015 seconds ahead of Bruening as he took the white flag.

Sorensen went on to win the King of the Bullring, finishing .656 seconds ahead of Bruening. Timm finished third, followed by Nick Anvelink, and Glenz.
