Freedom, WI - January 4, 2022 - Dirt Kings Tour Promoters are excited to release the 2022 WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour schedule featuring 15 events at 9 tracks across the state of Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, including a multiple day event with the World of Outlaws Late Model Tour.
The sixth season of the Dirt Kings Late Model Tour is sure to provide lots of excitement, building on the six way battle for the championship last season with seven different drivers being crowned King. Nick Anvelink is the 4-time and defending Dirt Kings Late Model Tour Champion and Justin Ritchie was crowned the 2020 Champion. Anvelink leads all drivers with 16 victories entering the 2022 season, while Mitch McGrath has 7 victories. Taylor Scheffler has four victories while Jake Timm, Kyle Raddant and Brad Mueller have two victories each and 16 other drivers have one victory.
The much anticipated sixth season of the WABAM Late Model Tour will begin at Shawano Speedway, the legendary half-mile oval on Saturday, April 16 for the Spring Thaw. Anvelink won the season opener last season, to start his fourth Championship season. This year, the Spring Thaw will be the fiftieth race for the WABAM Dirt Kings Tour.
The Dairyland Showdown at Mississippi Thunder Speedway features three nights of racing with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series on May 5-6-7 in Fountain City, Wisconsin.
The crown jewel of the 2022 WABAM Dirt Kings Tour, The Diamond 44, highlights the month of May at Wilmot Raceway on Sunday, May 15. The 44-lap race pays $4,400 to the King and $440 to start. Jared Siefert, Ritchie, Jesse Glenz and Scheffler have been crowned Kings of The Diamond the past four seasons, the event honoring Diamond Jim Letizia.
Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, hosts three events this season, kicking off Memorial Day weekend with the Salute to Service 30 on Friday, May 27. Anvelink won the event in 2018 and has been crowned King four different times at Outagamie Speedway.
Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, hosts the first of two WABAM Dirt Kings Tour events during the 2022 season on Friday, June 3 with the Stars & Stripes 40, presented by Arcadia Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram. The 40-lap race pays $5,000 to win. Timm, John Kaanta, Dustin Sorensen, Rodney Sanders, and Chad Mahder have all visited Victory Lane at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.
SK Speedway in Unity, Wisconsin hosts the $2,500-to-win School’s Out 30 on Friday, June 10. Anvelink won the inaugural event at SK Speedway in 2018.
Plymouth Dirt Track Racing in Plymouth, Wisconsin hosts the WABAM 30 on Friday, June 24. Jimmy Mars, McGrath and Glenz have been crowned King at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in the past.
The Tour returns to Shawano Speedway for a second time on on Saturday, June 25 for the Gehm's Club 117 Kings Classic. Anvelink, AJ Diemel and Raddant are past winners of the Gehm's Club 117 Kings Classic.
Outagamie Speedway hosts the Mid-Summer Showdown on Friday, July 1 to start the Independence Day weekend. Anvelink, McGrath, Mike Mullen, and Scheffler have been crowned King at Outagamie Speedway in the past.
After a few weeks off in July and early August, the WABAM Dirt Kings Tour returns to action at Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton for the King of the Bullring on Friday, August 12. At the inaugural event, Raddant was crowned King in a 30-lap battle to the finish, scoring his first Dirt Kings Tour win and last season Ron Berna scored his first Dirt Kings Tour win, in his 42nd start!
The Dirt Kings Tour returns to historic Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie for the King of the Park on Sunday, August 14. The first time the Tour visited Angell Park in 2017, Cole Spacek was crowned King and scored his first win while Mueller scored his second Dirt Kings Tour win and was crowned King of the Park in 2021.
The Tour returns to Mississippi Thunder Speedway for a second time on Friday, August 19 for the Rumble by the River 40, presented by Hurco & Stone Machinery. The King will take home $10,000 in this 40-lap race! Timm has two prior Dirt Kings Tour victories in the Rumble by the River and Mahder scored his first Dirt Kings Tour victory last season by leading all 40 laps, holding off Mars.
Finishing out the month of August, the WABAM Dirt Kings Tour returns to Plymouth Dirt Track Racing in Plymouth for a second time in 2022 for the Battle to be King on Friday, August 26.
Sycamore Speedway and Wilmot Raceway will host another Double Header Weekend in September. Crossing over the border for a second time, Sycamore Speedway hosts the $3,000-to-win Summer Sizzler on Friday, September 9. Last year, Anvelink held off Mike Spatola III and TJ Markham to win his second race of the season.
The next night, the WABAM Dirt Kings Tour travels 54 miles north to Wilmot Raceway on Saturday, September 10 for the 5th Annual Jim "Wildman" Watson Classic to finish up the Double Header Weekend. McGrath, Avenlink and Scheffler are past Kings of the "Wildman" and Mueller scored his first Dirt Kings Tour victory at Wilmot Raceway in 2017.
The WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour finishes the 2022 season on Saturday, September 17 with the Crowning of the King at Outagamie Speedway. Anvelink, McGrath and Scheffler have been victorious in the Crowning of the King in the past.
Many of the WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour drivers race weekly at Shawano Speedway and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing on Saturday night. With four races between the two tracks this season we are likely to see a first-time King, as Brett Swedberg, Justin Schmidt, Troy Springborn and Turk Letizia are looking for their first victory on the Tour at their home track.
